John Hager certainly is a compelling figure. One can’t deny he’s had an incredible career and is highly competent. After all, he overcame a fluke that infected him with Polio and still became a top executive with a Fortune 500 company, Lt. Gov., and a U.S. Asst. Sec. of Education. He must be a good manager.
By the same token, you cannot deny facts. As good of a man as he is, and as well as he’s lived his life, this isn’t about any of that. He’s trashed conservatives in the media — to the Washington Post of all places — and had liberals working for him while Lt. Gov.
His top aid was none other than Katherine Waddell, the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual rights RINO who ran a deceitful campaign as an independent to beat former Delegate (and conservative, pro-lifer) Brad Marrs. Waddell’s campaign benefited from fundraisers by Hager’s Boss Mark Warner (oh, yeah, Hager worked for Mark Warner the man he’s suppoesd to be working to defeat now). Waddell also WAS AGAINST the Marriage Amendment.
So let’s review: Hager’s top aid was a pro-gay rights, pro-abortion RINO who couldn’t get the GOP nomination so she ran, with Democrat money, against a Republican incumbent. He worked for Mark Warner. Mark Warner and DPV Chairman Dickie Cranwell have endorsed Hager (Cranwell on this blog of all places). Hager and RPV under his watch have DONE NOTHING to attack Warner’s record during his term as RPV chair.
I could go on, but I want to say how good Jeff Frederick is. He’s a solid conservative who’s not afraid — and who has in fact –stood up to liberal special interests like the VEA. He’s pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-low taxes and small government, pro-traditional values and against illegal immigration. He runs aggressively and won’t treat the liberals with kid gloves. He’ll expose their lies and turn RPV into a real campaign organization, not one of accomodationists, satisfied with the status quo. He’s a grasroots guy, not a top-down guy. Jeff Frederick is the type of bold, aggressive chairman the Republicans need now — not an administrator who goes along to get along.
