Art In The Age Of Obama
Thanks to the alert by our friend Tea Party Jim, we now know the winner of the Public Option Please propaganda, graffiti, Obama adoration, uhh, “art” contest. As Jim writes us:
The sickness of this kind of thinking is what is destroying this country. The thought that Washington, D.C., is the lifeblood of the nation is simply idiotic, but not surprising.
And apart from the misattribution of the quote, the doublespeak of the supposed Jefferson quote is nearly hilarious. “Without Liberty no happiness can be enjoyed by society” as the money quote to sell government rationed health care is simply Orwellian.
I can’t add much more to that. Well stated, Jim. Gabriel Malor has something to say, too, at Ace of Spades HQ.
The winners are (although we thought liberalism doesn’t have winners and losers, and that it makes everyone equal and happy):
First place and People’s Choice winner, to an Amy Martin, with the perfectly understandable idea that our country is great because of Washington, D.C.:

Second Place, to Tatyana Fazlalizadeh (there’s always a Tatyana involved in socialism, isn’t there?), but lacking nothing in staged propaganda heart strings, and a bone to underappreciated photographers out there:

Finally, a disappointing, I’m sure, third place to the POTUS, represented by a Michael Cuffe, but it’s my personal favorite, as well, and takes second to nothing in human adoration, if that’s any consolation to him. After all, the bronze here is better than what he got at got at on his Olympics bid:

It’s no surprise that there have been no comments. There is little substance in this article (outside of the artwork) to comment on.
You’re right to an extent. The art is so bad, it speaks for itself and there really isn’t much to say about it, but I like the snarky comments in the post.
So Teaparty Jim and the FF scoff at the very idea that WDC is the heart of America? Let’s see, and just where is the Family Research Council’s HQ? Washington DC – the political heart of America. And where is the Family Foundation’s HQ? Richmond, VA – the political heart of Virginia. It would seem that the FRC and TFF know exactly where the heart is and that’s precisely why they are there themselves. Can anyone spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y?
Geez, you really don’t comprehend the point, do you? Organizations HQ in DC b/c it’s a “company town” so to speak. They don’t a choice. But the art is saying America is great b/c it’s lifeblood comes from DC. No, America’s life blood comes from everyday Americans who DON’T WANT D.C. MEDDLING in their lives! America is great b/c everyday Americans build the country with their hard work and entrepreneurship and endevor, NOT b/c D.C. gave away the store and then some with govt. programs.
The so-called religious right claim they want small, unintrusive government while simultaneously using/needing the power of government to achieve their aims. Sure, don’t trust the Government with our health care; trust Wall Street and the health insurance companies instead! Yes, we’ve seen how well that has worked up to now! While the “pro-lifers” are busy trying to save babies, many thousands of other innocent Americans die because they either have no insurance, limited insurance or were dropped from coverage because of pre-existing conditions. It amazes me how the religious right shuns Darwin’s evolutionary science but for modern America they embrace his “survival of the fittest” approach when it comes to individual success or failure in life.
Now, as far as health care rationing, we already have rationing. Doctors and patients are not always in control under our present system as conservatives suggest – the insurance companies are often the deciders. My Doctor wanted to start me on the cholesterol drug Crestor. My insurance company said they wouldn’t cover that drug because it’s too expensive. Meanwhile, the CEO of my insurance company takes home 15 million dollars/year. Does he deserve a reward for denying patients what the doctor recommends? My doctor even shook his head in disgust. Now, is that the Government getting between me and my doctor or is it the Insurance Company getting between me and my doctor? Actually, I now find myself hoping that the current HC plan in the Senate fails. Why, because it’s been so watered down because of the insurance lobby influence that it’s nearly worthless as it is.
