Hope For Hollywood?

Almost all the news today is national in scope, and much of that is about culture. It appears now that the same-sex marriage drive in the Northeast has stalled. Starting with Maine’s decisive ballot victory November 3 (another conservative victory that historic night almost unnoticed by the media), now the legislatures in New York and New Jersey have ground to a crawl their moves to put the issue to a vote. In the nation’s capital, however, the city council there most certainly will approve a same-sex marriage measure. But a reluctant hero is emerging in Catholic Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl, who is telling the D.C. government that if you force this immorality on my faith, you can forget about Catholic Charities’ help. The liberal hysteria is amazing.

In another battle in the culture war, Virginian Lisa Miller has been ordered, incredibly, by a Vermont judge, to cede full custody of her daughter to her former lesbian lover. Meanwhile, Pastor Rick Warren asks liberals if they think abortion is so bad it should be “rare,” why not ban it?

In other news, the global warming hoax scandal is shedding still more light on the motives and evil mentality of its perpetrators (celebrating a man’s death, for example) and we see a school without God. Yesterday, we posted a link to an article about Angelina Jolie calling President Obama a “socialist.” Today, we find one about Sandra Bullock’s “blessing to meet a Christian,” (the woman she portrays in her hit movie Blind Side). Who knows? Maybe there’s hope for Hollywood yet.

Virginia News Stand: April 13, 2009

Welcome back to the work week. We hope everyone had a Blessed Easter and that the meaning of The Resurrection will not be a fleeting moment, but rather one that continues to resonate within our consciences throughout each and every day of our lives. For those travelling with their families, or for other reasons, we hope Easter week brings safe travels.

Now, back to work: The state’s unemployment insurance program is running low on funds, yet Governor Tim Kaine wants to expand it (and raise job-killing taxes to do it); there’s a push by medical professionals to maintain their conscience protection safeguards (see our statement), the culture war rages on, and the Tea Parties have begun!

MoveOn.org Already Working To Overturn California Marriage Amendment, Staging Rallies In Virginia Tomorrow

Earlier this week we posted a letter from Planned Parenthood (click here) so you could read for yourself the delightfulness it takes in its extremist positions. Today, we came across a blast e-mail from another notoriously radical, big money, Angry Left organization — MoveOn.org — announcing to its millions of members plans to overturn the hard-fought and legally won Marriage Amendment in California (”Prop 8″) and in every state that has passed one, including Virginia (protests are scheduled in seven Virginia cities tomorrow. Click here).

This is what we are up against in the culture war (click here for one way to fight back). By the way, in MoveOn’s e-mail, posted below, notice the words “agents of intolerance” and “fear-mongering” to describe values voters, while MoveOn admits it is “angry” and that its supporters “took to the streets” after the Marriage Amendment passed. Boy, did they ever: View, if you haven’t, the KPSP television report from Palm Springs, California, where a true mob of leftists and homosexual activitists surrounded and threatened an elderly lady who supported the Marriage Amendment (click here). The MoveOn.org e-mail is printed below verbatim and in its entirety.

E-Mail From Moveon.org To Its Members Regarding Actions To Repeal California’s Recently Passed Marriage Amendment

subject line: “Overturn Prop 8″

  Dear MoveOn member,

Along with our tremendous excitement over Barack Obama’s victory, a lot of us are sad and angry about a different election result-the passage of California Proposition 8, which reversed marriage equality and wrote discrimination into the California Constitution.

Many people worked hard to defeat this measure-including MoveOn members, who contributed over $300,000 to defeat it. But agents of intolerance used fear-mongering to eke out a win.

After the election, people across California immediately took to the streets, vowing to put the state on the right side of history by overturning Prop 8.

Now folks everywhere are coming together to add their voices. Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be rallies in support of marriage equality in every single state. If you want to attend an event in your state, go to this page and click on your state name — you’ll see the location of any rallies planned:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=51025&id=15118-9623350-OcY3OPx&t=1

These rallies will send a strong signal that depriving people of rights is no longer acceptable in America — and it will also be a first step in ongoing activism across the nation.

There’s one other thing you can do to support the fight for marriage equality.

The Courage Campaign (which does MoveOn-style organizing in California) is working with other groups on a two-year grassroots plan to overturn Prop 8 in the 2010 election. The first step is for folks to speak out together with one voice right away by signing a pledge to help overturn Prop 8.

Over 100,000 people have already signed the pledge-and thousands more are signing every day. Even non-Californians are signing the pledge in solidarity. If you’d like to sign, click here:

Thanks for all you do.

How Political Correctness May Cost Us $700 Billion

Many years ago, when the first musings of something called “political correctness” starting popping up on campuses and the culture at large — an attempt, ostensibly, to use words not to offend people and to paper over the truth about anything in an attempt at hyper politeness, but whose real aim was to suppress opinion contrary to liberalism — it was paid little notice. When it was talked about, it was in the vein of the little oddity that would run its course into fad history. Nothing to be taken seriously. Except that it got to full march, permeating more than the academy, spreading to entertainment, journalism and media, art, sports, the workplace, anything and anywhere you could think, including (and especially) government at all levels, even to the point of possibly permanently altering the practice and course of our mostly-capitalist-economy that has created the greatest standard of living ever know to man. This really is the chickens coming home to roost.

As “political correctness” morphed into a speech code that discredits anything opposite liberalism as “hate speech” or ignorance or hayseed stupidity, and arrogantly talks down to everyone else, its government proponents encoded it not just in employment practices or protections, but in regulations affecting how financial institutions conduct business by mandating loans to people (out of “fairness” no doubt) regardless of their means to make good on the payments. Even though the House of Representatives voted down the latest government takeover of an industry earlier today, one may still come. The price tag is in the range of $700 billion of our money, threatening our economic well being.

A more detailed look at this phenomena comes from Ann Coulter (click here). It is worth the read to understand the nexus of the culture war and how its political outcome affects everything else, including our economy’s capability to function. Coincidentally, a friend brought to my attention a YouTube video that is doubly worth the look (click here). Although a bit long, it documents, albeit in an entertaining way, the cold hard facts, with statements of those in Congress responsible and actual legislative language authored by said incompetents. Or, as this concise news report from Fox News Channel’s Brett Baier provides more background (click here), documents, one of the presidential candidates, at least figuratively, voted “present,” again.

But here is the best one of all . . . the politically correct (and powerful) crowd in House committee defending Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac when they were being warned of their impending peril! This is a must see video, not long, and in their own words (click here). When will the left be held accountable for what they say and do?
